Triple mega blog!

Basically we're having an awesome time here and haven't had much chance to blog due to all the fun, but we have written the following over the last few days:

First morning on Koh Chang and what a way to wake up! Strolled out of our beach hut and straight into to the sea, it,s like climbing into a warm bath which is actually a relief from the heat! It's hot, really hot, can't say the exact temperature but anything more than a swimming costume during the day is too much clothing!

Our beach hut is pretty basic but that's all we wanted and for £70 for the week we're not complaining. As we write this we're sat out front of our hut, sea breeze cooling us in the shade, as the noise of the cicadas in the trees throbs and swells around us. The air is dotted with the biggest and brightest butterflies we have ever seen and little lizards dart around the ground.

Last night we walked along the beach to source our dinner and stopped at the local shop to replenish our water stock... and what did we find? Tesco! It seems the supermarket giant is truly taking over but 9 litres of water for less than a pound mustn't be grumbled at.

The next day we had the first accident of the trip (don't worry!)after a lovely relaxing day on the beach. I (Alex) had spent quite a considerable time setting up the perfect shot of the sunset finally finding the best position to leave the camera to set the timer, all the while Rhiannon was oblivious to this. As i set the timer and ran down to her I collided, shoulder-first with a low hanging branch sending me on my arse with both feet in the air. I managed to make it into the picture but as you'll see below it wasn't quite the romantic shot I was after. Big props to Mike and Millie for the first aid kit, got it's first use to clean my cuts and grazes!

That night we explored the rest of Kae Bae Beach, after dinner stumbling into a great place known as the Riddim Shack. The couple owning the place, David and Emma from Brighton UK, were so welcoming we arranged to go back the next night for some tasty Salted Red Snapper. We had made our first friends of the trip!

When we arrived for some tasty home cooked grub we met another couple, Grant and George who were also sampling Dave's finest cuisine. They are both from New Zealand and are on their honeymoon. We got to chatting and I (now Rhiannon) was asking George (who was from the Uk originally) where she had travelled before and she reeled off a number of countries and said that she left after finishing university in the UK.... at Derby Uni! Oh lovely people back home in Derby it seems it doesn't matter how far round the world you go you will always find someone who used to live on Howe Street ( she lived in number 50... Big up the Howe Street Massive!) and used to drink in the Friary, seriously, how many people are there that used to drink in the Friary as it seems to me that we truly are everywhere! When Alex asked her what she had studied she said Sociology and American Studies!!! Oh what a small world it is. It turns out that she had the same lecturer as Alex (Alisdair Keane). And then after that we found out that when she' married Grant she had become George Dawes... what are the scores?!?!

Awesome guys alongside David and Emma and a great night was had, yesterday was a more chilled out affair capped off by a beautiful sunset time, sea kayaking trip to one of the smaller islands out in the gulf. We have 1 more full day left here before heading to Cambodia via Hak Lek, but we are going to make the most of this fabulous place. Right, next stop a Thai massage on the beach!

Sent with love from our sea hut, Porn Bungalows, Kae Bae Beach x x x

  2. Tee hee hee indeed... I would say it was funny to see but I didn't see a thing. All I heard was a thump followed by a small groan but all is ok and his shoulder is healed over now! Missing you my Daisy Duke (very much)! Love to your face and hope the Uni work is all going well, nearly there! X x x

P.S Alex has put some photos of the Daisy Benjamin Library up on his Facebook page, I added Fingersmith to their collection this morning before we left the Island... A fine addition too! Thank you so much for recommending it! X x x
